Things to Think About:

Solar Module Update -

Internationally manufactured solar modules continue to be in short supply this season.  As regular supply lines become increasingly unavailable, alternative module suppliers and manufacturers have emerged to fill the void.  TRINA and SCHOTT module supplies are still strong, and should remain so for the remainder of the year.   We are actively pursuing Ontario content solar modules for your 2011 solar installations.  We apologize for not being current on the website regarding solar modules.  We expect to post our new kits before the end of the year, with the modules we will carry going forward.

Multi-Contact (MC) Connector Shortage -

The continued shortage of MC4 connectors continues to put a strain on the solar industry in North America.  We discovered recently that our open purchase orders with Multi-Contact will not be filled until (at least) September.  In response to this shortage, we are bringing in HELIOS H4 connectors.  H4 connectors have the following features:

•Fully intermateable with industry standard MC4 connectors
•Meets all new NEC 2008 requirements
•Quick and easy secure snap lock mating
•Simple unlocking tool meets NEC requirements
   •Long-term UV and Ozone resistance
   •Highest current rating in industry
   •RoHS compliant
•Low contact resistance means low power loss

Unirac lead times -

Due to the increase in roof mounted project applications and installations, we have doubled our stock order amounts for August and September.  Even so, if you have a job on the horizon, we'd like to hear from you as soon as possible to make sure your product lands on site when you need it, without shortages.  The Ontario extruder has made steps to shorten lead times to delivery, but  FIT level projects should schedule three to four weeks ahead, REFIT level projects should schedule one week ahead.  Due to the nature of the product packaging, next day delivery is not possible.

Tech Tip:

Array Wiring -  Save on wire costs, reduce resitance, even save time with this simple string wiring method:

Next time you're on the roof getting ready to wire up a string of solar modules in a row, think about "jumping" modules.  Meaning, if you have 10 modules to wire up, then wire the 1st to the 3rd, 3rd to the 5th, 5th to the 7th, 7th to the 9th, 9th to the 10th, 10th to the 8th, 8th to the 6th, 6th to the 4th, and the 4th to the 2nd module.  Result?  You just saved yourself around 26 feet of array wiring!

Thoughts on the OPA Price Change for Ground Mounted Arrays Under 10 kW ~

There has been a lot of talk already about the price change, so I'll be brief.   The price re-structuring has created unneccesary doubts in the stability of the program in general, and the sincerity of the OPA.  A lot of money was spent by investors, manufacturers, and customers alike who quite genuinely feel betrayed.  However, in my opinion, it might be best if we look at the big picture here.  The program is new, and therefore the OPA did not have historical data to rely on when they designed the price structure in the first place.  If they did, they may have assigned a lower price to ground mounted micro-FIT level contracts, similar to the lower price offered at FIT level contracts.  What is important here is that the program (and therefore the solar industry in Ontario) continue to be supported and nurtured to ensure it's long term viability and sustainability.  I for one would much rather experience a price adjustment in the first year of this new program, than have the program shut down entirely after two years due to a lack of financial stability.

Advertising Opportunity ~
